Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the most common questions regarding our products and services. If you can't find your answer here, contact us and we will be happy to assist you personally!

What is the process like?

Firstly, we recommend that you visit our show room to see some of our options in person. Secondly, a consultant can visit your home* to measure your space (or you can provide us with your own measurements**) and discuss your needs and design requirements. Once the design process is over, we will require a deposit to send the unit into production. This typically takes 2 to 4 weeks, after which, we will schedule an installation date at your convenience and our experienced and courteous installation staff will deliver and perform final assembly on your unit.

What's the difference between a wall bed and a murphy bed?

Both terms designate beds that can be folded up when not in use. In the early 1900's, the term Murphy bed was used by its inventor, W.L. Murphy, to designate a bed that folds up inside a closet, hidden behind doors. The term Murphy bed was ruled a generic name by the US Courts in 1989, since then, both terms can be used. Nowadays, Murphy beds are incorporated in a cabinet which is anchored to a wall. This is where the term "wall bed" originated from. From the metal frame and industrial look of the Murphy beds used in the 1900's, the B.O.F.F. Wall Bed group of companies has developed a smaller and more efficient mechanism. The spring-assisted lifting systems are enclosed and protected with a metal cover to maximize security. The Murphy beds manufactured by B.O.F.F. have become the standard in the Canadian industry.

How long does it take once we order a bed?

Every unit is built-to-order in our factory. The typical lead time is 2 to 4 weeks, but can vary at different times of year.

Can the beds be moved?

Yes, BOFF's wall beds can be dis-assembled and moved.

How thick can my mattress be?

As a standard, our beds will accommodate mattresses up to 9 inches in thickness. Beds can be made deeper to accommodate a thicker mattress, up to 13 inches, although we recommend to keep the mattress at or under 9 inches for an easier operation of the bed.

What is the warranty on your products?

All of our units are covered by a 3 year, parts and labor warranty, the industry standard. Our mechanisms and hardware have stood the test of time and units will last well over 25 years when properly taken care of. Mattresses sold by B.O.F.F. are covered by their respective manufacturers.

How much space do I need?

Please consult the following size grid for beds: here. As for cabinets and wall units, those can be customized to fit most spaces. Please contact us for more details.

What materials do you use?

BOFF Wall Beds uses industrial grade engineered wood, sourced from a Canadian manufacturer: Tafisa Canada. To find out more about our materials, visit our materials page.

Aren't murphy beds expensive?

BOFF Wall Beds has a wide range of solutions to suit all budgets, including beds starting at an affordable $1,295, including delivery and installation***

What is better, wood or metal frames?

While both options have their merits in terms of traditional beds, we have chosen to go with wood because it has a definite advantage in terms of cost and structural support when it comes to wall beds. Our wood slats system provide good support to the mattress, similar to that of a traditional bed and without the use of a box spring. Slats also allow for air to flow under the mattress, preventing humidity and moisture from forming under the bed.
